A MESSAGE FROM MAEVE

Hello, I’m Maeve Carr, founder, owner, and head designer at Maeve Carr Design. From a very early age, I’ve been deeply inspired by art, home interiors, and architecture—so much so that I pursued a degree in History of Art at Princeton.
My inspiration comes from a wide range of sources and eras. I’m particularly moved by the vibrant energy of Fauvism, especially the work of artists like Henri Matisse, whose treatment of light and shadow continues to influence my use of color. I’m equally drawn to the emotional depth of the Abstract Expressionists, particularly Helen Frankenthaler and her ethereal piece Spring Veil. Of course, I also admire the timeless genius of the great masters, such as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo.
In architecture, I find enduring inspiration in the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, both in his iconic museums—, such as the Guggenheim and his homes, like Fallingwaters, which beautifully integrate nature and structure. I share that same philosophy in my own design work: to bring the outside in and create a strong connection between a home and its natural surroundings. One of my favorite examples of this is a lakeside project where I translated the shifting colors of the water into the interior palette—capturing the calm, peace, and beauty of nature in a livable, lasting way.
When I’m not designing, I spend time with my two children and two grandchildren, who keep me joyfully busy. I stay connected to the art world through regular visits to New York City’s incredible museums, often acting as a guide for friends and clients. I look forward to the day I can share this love with my grandchildren, too. Travel and cooking are also key parts of my life—and wonderful sources of creative inspiration for my work.
